Mytrip is a dark ambient/drone act ran by Angel Simitchiev, a 26 year old musician and composer from Bulgaria. Simitchiev has an MA in ‘Media Composition and Electroacoustic Music’ from the National Academy of Music and also works as a Sound Art lecturer in the National Academy of Arts, both in Sofia, Bulgaria. Actively collaborating with art forms such as theatre, dance & performance, video art & installations, (short) film. With several years of history in the hardcore punk scene, he is currently mostly revolving around the ambient/drone genres.
After about 8 years spent mostly performing live and publishing music on cassette tapes, Mytrip is finally releasing music on vinyl, which has its premiere on Sounds Of A Tired City. Released on the small Bulgarian label Amek, ‘Empty’ is a small step on a new sonic path for Simitchiev. The sound is deep as usual, but this time less lo-fi and warmer instead. The two conceptually linked pieces are thick, but still spatial. They ascend from pure darkness to a calmer and abrasive, yet almost uplifting vibe.
‘Empty’ was recorded in just two nights. As most of Mytrip’s work it’s an attempt to bury an immense human loss in layers of abstract soundscapes. Mastered by Ivan Shopov, one of the most prolific Bulgarian artists, ‘Empty’ is still meant to be experienced as loud as you can get and live wherever possible.
Your next chance to experience his live drones will be on 24 February in Stockholm, Sweden. Mytrip is going to perform along Imaginary Forces (UK) at Fylkingen.
